Ronja Ver is a dancer and dance maker, a teacher, a mother, an activist, and a lifetime student of performance as meaning-making. Her choreographic work addresses current issues through movement, sound, and awkward audience participation; technical but unpolished, often working with extreme physical states to invite a visceral, nonverbal place of relating. A native of Finland, she has worked and performed extensively throughout Europe and in the United States, most recently with Nancy Stark Smith and Mike Vargas in Seattle and New York City, Sara Shelton Mann, Risa Jaroslow & Dancers, Scott Wells and Dancers and Avy K Productions in the San Francisco Bay Area. Previous posts include the National Theater of Finland and in Riitta Vainio Dance Company, and she was proud to be featured in Steve Paxton’s DVD Material For The Spine. Her choreography has been presented in the U.S. at Movement Research at the Judson Church (NYC), Danspace Project (NYC), and the American Dance Festival (NC), among others. She began her 3-year artist residency at SAFEhouse for the Arts, San Francisco, in 2016, with a new work in progress called DOOR.

Ronja Ver is continually inspired by the art and practice of Contact Improvisation, which provides a place for play and magic in her life. She is a co-organizer of the West Coast Contact Improvisation Jam and a co-founder of the Finnish CI festival Skiing On Skin. She holds an MFA in Dance from Hollins University.

Ronja Ver (Ronja Verkasalo) on tanssija ja tanssintekijä, opettaja, äiti ja aktivisti, joka uskoo esitystaiteen tehtävään kulttuuristen merkitysten tuottajana. Hänen taiteellinen työnsä tarkastelee ajankohtaisia aiheita liikkeen, äänen ja tekstin kautta, ja kutsuu katsojan ajattelemaan oman mukavuusalueensa ulkopuolella. Tenkninen ja rujo tanssi käyttää usein äärimmäisiä kehollisia tiloja keinona jaetun, sanattoman kielen löytämiseen yleisön kanssa. Ronja Ver’n teoksia on nähty Suomessa mm. Zodiak–Uuden Tanssin Keskuksessa 2005 ja 2007, ja hän on esiintynyt laajalti Euroopassa ja Yhdysvalloissa, viimeisimpänä Nancy Stark Smithin ja Mike Vargasin teoksissa Seattlessa ja New Yorkissa, Sara Shelton Mannin, Risa Jaroslowin, Scott Wellsin ja Avy K Productionsin teoksissa San Franciscossa. Aiemmin hän on työskennellyt mm. Suomen Kansallisteatterissa ja Riitta Vainion tanssiryhmässä, ja hänet voi nähdä Steve Paxtonin DVD:llä Material For The Spine. Hänen töitään on esitetty Yhdysvalloissa mm. Movement Research at the Judson Churchissa (NYC), Danspace Projectissa (NYC), ja the American Dance Festivalilla (NC). Hän aloitti kolmivuotisen taiteilijaresidenssain SAFEhouse for the Arts’issa San Franciscossa 2016, uusi työn alla oleva teos on nimeltään DOOR.

Kontakti-improvisaatio on Ronja Ver’lle jatkuva leikin ja inspiraation lähde. Hän tuottaa West Coast Contact Improvisation JAM -festivaalia ja tanssityöpajoja, ja opettaa säännöllisesti Berkeley’ssä ja San Franciscossa. Hän on valmistunut tanssijaksi Outokummun tanssitaiteen linjalta, ja tanssitaiteen maisteriksi Hollins Universitystä Yhdysvalloista.
